Synopsis

Spartans have superior equipment but are limited in number. Persians only have blue weapons but have infinite respawns.

Equipment

Required equipment: Al spartans are required to use a javelin or shortspear, and a shield, preferably round.

All persians are required to have blue weapons.

Field setup

Divide the field into two equal teams. Set up the hot gates, which can be two trees about 30 feet apart, or even just two shields spaced out. The persians may not circle around these trees, and must attack through the gateway, into spartan lines. If they break through the lines, of course they can surround the spartans, but the mountain pass hasn't been discovered by the Persians yet.

If field rope is used, a large hourglass shape can be marked out. The Spartans start in the skinny part of the hourglass shape, giving them the best use of their shields, but are free to dance around in the fatter parts of the hourglass if they want.

Game play and win condition

Spartans never respawn, though they may heal. They are allowed to throw their javelins, though in this variant, they do not have a backup kopis.

Persians may use blues only. They are allowed to dual wield, and can use any blue weapon at all, flails, axes, hammers, long blues, even daggers.

Persians respawn about 30ft from the Spartan line, touch and go respawn. The Spartans have no respawn, and must fight to the last.

Time is kept on how long one team keeps at least one spartan alive. After the last one falls, teams switch sides and the new Spartans try to beat that record.

Additional notes

A variant, for more roleplay, gives each side more freedoms.

Persians can use any weapons, but their shields are wicker, and they wear no armor. The wicker shields break in one hit from any color damage.

Spartans can have backup blue swords only, and can only use them if they throw their javelin. Additionally, their shields are unbreakable.
