So you want to help the wiki

Helping out and contributing to this wiki may seem like a daunting task at first, but fret not! That is what this guide is for. If you are interested in contributing, please reach out to us on Facebook.

1. Where to start

The wiki is set up using a system of links, to you guessed it! Link to other links. Think of this wiki like a tree, the best way to contribute and to help out would be to search through the already existing links to find the best place for your contribution, if you are unaware or unsure if something already exists, feel free to ask the moderator who helped you create an account, or even use the search bar in the upper left hand corner of the screen. On the contrary you also have the option to make a page that is not linked to other pages by simply searching a key word that may not be registered among the wiki, although that is helpful, nobody will be able to find it unless they search for the exact keyword that you have used, so it is always encouraged that if you choose to do so, you link that somewhere onto the already existing pages.

2. Linking Pages

Linking pages is as easy as taking the keyword you want to create an entry for and clicking the Internal Link button marked with an AB on the top left corner of the screen, and then filling in the page you would like to link to. Main Page Alternatively, you can just use the brackets presented [[ ]] with the key word between them.

3. Creating Lists

Once you create your page you maybe wondering how you would like to organize your information, and there are plenty of ways to do this, if it was not obvious already I love creating lists. Firstly you are going to want to make a title for your page, putting it between == == This format will be similar to the brackets explained in step two. What this will do is emphasize this as the beginning or certain section of a page by enlarging the text you add in and creating a divider between this and the rest of your page. You are also free to add the internal links to this title as well, along with external which I will show you how to link later in the guide. That would look something like below. If you would like to list off different topics with little circles instead, that is as easy as adding a * before each link under the section.

Main Page

Make sure that when you are creating this new title that it is on its own and not next to any other text, it is as simple as pressing enter to make sure that there is enough room away from the previous post, this also is true for separating text, if you are trying to create a subtopic for example.

3. Test This is without the space

3. Test

This is with the space

This is especially helpful when you are trying to edit specific parts of a page, with the categories == == presents, you are given the option to edit those parts of the page specifically opposed to clicking Edit on the top left corner to edit the entire page, which should make it a tad easier if you are only changing something small.

4. Linking External Links

Similar to linking internal links, the wiki allows you to link external links as well by pressing the world button right next to internal. [1] instead of the double brackets, it will be single brackets this time [ ]. The easiest way to do this will be to copy and paste the url from the original website to the wiki, as the wiki will not take incomplete URL's. You may have noticed that the website I linked is not represented by the actual website URL, and instead with a number. To change this when you add the url between the brackets, add a / immediately after the link, press space, and then add whatever text you want to represent the link demonstrated as so. Dagorhir! Make sure to check the link after you make this, as a lot of the time this extra / may interfere with the link itself and lead to a 404, alternatively you may also just press space instead of adding the / and write the title inside of the brackets.

5. Bold and Italicized

You may have already noticed that there are buttons for both of these options on the far left of the little toolbar we have been using this entire time, Bold text Italic text demonstrations of how to use each button can be found by clicking on them and similarly copying the same format like the brackets around words and even sentences.

6. Adding Pictures

Before you think about adding any sort of picture, you need to click on the left link, listed under tools, that says Upload File. This will take you to a page where it will invite you to upload your own file from your computer which you then will be able to customize title wise to use in this wiki. This is relatively challenging depending on what type of picture you would like to upload as the picture will be placed relative to where your link is on the screen. File:Example.jpg will be the text you want to use which can alternatively be found by pressing the picture button on the toolbar, after File: you want to add your file name where example is, along with page placement, size, and a caption which will be listed after .jpg and divided with | your text should look something like this, .jpg|300px|thumb|center|Caption]]

7. Horizontal Line

Lastly, you are able to close different categories with the far left button on the toolbar. As shown at the bottom of this page the horizontal line tool will create just that with ---- you will also need to have the correct amount of space for this to work as you can see it does not work if there is not one space above, and below.
