Synopsis

Two equal teams fight on a clearly defined square field. Each team has 5 special roles given to 8 different players. If a team's king dies, they lose!

Equipment

Required equipment:

  • Means to clearly mark out a square field, as one step off the field results in death
  • Means to identify the special non-pawn roles, either headbands, masks, special weapons, etc
  • Team headbands for each team

Field setup

Mark out a field 40ft by 40ft. The field size can vary depending on the number of players, but the intent is for the field to be small enough that one team cannot be surrounded by the other, they must fight line to line.

There are 5 roles

  • King - This role has 3 stoneskin, an unbreakable shield, and immunity to projectile weapons. He must use a shield and dagger
  • Queen - This role has 3 stoneskin, and she is free to use any weapon
  • Bishop - This role can heal, including shields and stoneskin, by placing a hand on the injured player or broken equipment for 10 seconds, while counting out loud. This can be interrupted like normal healing. The Bishop cannot heal the King, due to his political leanings. He must use a spear.
  • Knight - This role has an unbreakable shield, and must use a shield and a blue weapon.
  • Rook - This role deals double red damage, and must fight with a red weapon shorter than 5 feet.

All other players are considered pawns and do not have any special powers or properties, but have infinite respawns.

Game play and win condition

There are two ways to play this game.

First, each role is given to a preselected group of fighters on each team, 1 King per team, 1 queen, and 2 bishops, knights, and rooks.

If any of the non-king roles die, they are dead for good. Game ends with the death of a team's King.

Or, secondly, you can play with each role being able to respawn, but not by the same player. When a role dies, they walk to respawn and pass their role off to other dead player, either the next person to respawn, or the most willing player. No player can play any role for more than one life. The game progresses much faster this way, so it is advised to give the King at least 3 deaths before the game is ended.

At the start of the battle, the pawns are lined up on each side, and the roles are lined up along the back line, behind their respective teams. At call of Lay On, the teams clash in the center and a normal line fight is expected, with the roles sprinkled in where they see fit.

Additional notes

To give weight to the Bishop's healing, normal Dagorhir healing is disabled for this battle.

The Queen should call out the number of stoneskin left when hit. If she has three stone, and is hit, she should call out "two stone!" then "one stone!" then "zero stone!" as she is hit.

The Bishop is encouraged to count loudly and clearly at the count of "One Dagorhir! Two Dagorhir! Three Dagorhir!" and cannot heal unless he is doing so.

The Rook should call out "Double Red!" with each swing. A Double Red kills a shield in one hit, and kills a player in one hit, regardless of location.
