A hit from a hand-held weapon counts when the weapon's striking surface lands with sufficient force. Light taps, grazes, glancing and sliding strikes do not count as sufficient force. Several indicators can be useful for determining if a hit was sufficient such as hearing an audible impact, feeling arrestment of a weapons momentum (ie. on a target limb), or a sudden deceleration of a motion. Many have waxed poetic on what it means to deliver a sufficient strike. Ultimately, what is and is not sufficient force is decided by the player who recieves the hit. Friendly communication between fighters during and after a combat regarding a hits sufficiency is a widespread cultural nuance that reinforces the honor system and ensures everyone enjoys playing Dagorhir.
